The weird names in the MiLB (Minor League Baseball) don’t stop at one division. No, they go all throughout the league. These are the AL Central’s weird MiLB names.
Kannapolis Cannon Ballers
Getting started with a bang (no pun intended), the Cannon Ballers play their ball at Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, North Carolina. As recently as 2017, they won the Carolina League South Division Championship, their only one to date. The team is the Single-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox and has been since 2001.
Akron RubberDucks
This one is funny, but the name makes sense for Akron. The “Rubber” in the name refers to the rubber industry in the city of Akron. The Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Guardians play their ball at Canal Park in Akron, Ohio.
Erie SeaWolves
Now on to the most recent Eastern League champions, the SeaWolves are currently the Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, and have been since 2001, just like the Cannon Ballers with their organization. Erie plays at UPMC Park in Erie, Pennsylvania. The day of writing, April 16, the SeaWolves are scheduled to play the aforementioned RubberDucks.
Quad Cities River Bandits
Their stadium is in the biggest of the 4 cities, Davenport, Iowa. The team is the High-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, and their name was barely the funniest in the organization. Their logo also looks like a certain Double-A raccoon team.
Wichita Wind Surge
This team was narrowly even selected in the article, with two other team names in the organization that are equally as funny. Riverfront Stadium in Wichita, Kansas is where they play their home games. They are the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins.
