Minor league baseball names are known for being weird. Like, really weird. There are so many, in fact, there will be six parts of this for the six divisions in the MLB. The AL West will be the first division.
Sugar Land Space Cowboys
The Houston Astros Triple-A affiliate from Sugar Land, Texas (yes, that is a real city) is notorious around the minor league world for their weird team name and city name. In their logo, though, there is no reference of a cowboy in their logo.
Rocket City Trash Pandas
A staple in the south, the team out of Madison, Alabama has, "Yes, this is our real team name" as their Twitter (X) bio. The team is the Angels Double-A affiliate, and their name "Trash Pandas" means "racoons," as referenced in their logo.
Midland RockHounds
Another Double-A team, affiliate of the A's, plays their ball in Midland, Texas. They used to be affiliated with the Cubs and Angels and have seven Texas League championships to their name.
Everett AquaSox
Wow. I didn't think it could get any weirder, but it did. The weirdness doesn't stop at their name; the team plays their games at Funko Park in Everett, Washington. The name makes sense, being the High-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, but it still gets people thinking how they came up with the name.
Down East Wood Ducks
This team isn't really "down east," they play at Grainger Stadium in Kinston, North Carolina. The Wood Ducks team name really doesn't make sense to me, but it makes a lot of people laugh when they hear the name.
What is the weirdest name in this article?
Sugar Land Space Cowboys
